No Magic
Conjuring tricks have an important feature in common with social institutions. Everything of any importance happens as a result of deliberate human action. There is no magic involved.
Because human actions are part of the real world, they too have causes. Thre is no magic there either.
All political terms acquire definitions that are pretty much the direct opposite of their dictionary meanings. ‘Fascism’ has three widely used meanings:
There is a common misunderstanding about consciousness: that it exists apart from the workings of the brain. There is no reason to believe that consciousness — or awareness, or thinking — is anything other than an aspect of the electro-chemical activity within the brain.
